Filing for Unemployment

File a claim for benefits as soon as possible after becoming unemployed (or facing a reduction in work hours).  You may file a claim online by clicking here. This link will take you through a step-by-step process for the unemployment claim application.

When you file your claim, you will be asked questions about your former employers for the last 18 months, such as addresses and dates of employment. Be sure this information is as complete and correct as possible, and have it on hand with you when you file your claim. This may prevent a delay in processing your payments. You will also be asked general questions such as your name, address, social security number and citizenship status.

Louisiana requires a one-week waiting period to receive benefits. That means that you will not receive payment for the first week for which you are eligible/qualified for benefits. Your payments will start with the second week for which you are eligible/qualified.

You are generally required to register for work in order to receive unemployment benefits.

After you file your initial claim, you will file your weekly claims online in HiRE or  through our automated phone service at 866-783-5567.  The Easy Call document provides a step-by-step guide to the phone service.
